Dog Rescues 13-Year-Old Boy Who Was Stuck In Foot-High Water In Ravine For Over 75 Hours
A bloodhound named Daryl is being credited with rescuing a missing 13-year-old boy who spent more than 75 hours injured and alone in a Missouri ravine, according to 5 On Your Side News.
Dakota “Cody” Trenkle Jr. vanished the morning of July 27 after falling off his skateboard near his home in Goose Creek Lake community, his aunt Brittney Van Volkenburg wrote in a GoFundMe post. Days later, Cody’s younger brother spotted the abandoned skateboard around 10:30 a.m. on July 30 — a key break in the search, according to the post.
Van Volkenburg, a volunteer firefighter, reached out to the Farmington Correctional Center K-9 Unit for help. Within twenty-one minutes, bloodhound Daryl tracked Cody’s scent and found him 240 feet down a ravine, about 540 yards from the board, 5 On Your Side reported.

Cody was found lying in five inches of water, dehydrated and suffering from head trauma, the outlet reported.
“He was found… at the bottom of a ravine… and had head trauma after a skateboarding accident,” Van Volkenburg wrote on GoFundMe.
He remains in critical condition in the pediatric intensive care unit of a St. Louis hospital.
“This was a miracle,” Van Volkenburg told 5 On Your Side. “He’s a fighter. He’s been a fighter since the day he was born.”
