Mizzou Spends $31.7 Million In NIL Money To Make Sure They Put Championships In Trophy Case: REPORT

Welcome to the High Spenders’ Club, Missouri — from a Miami fan.

The athletics department of the University of Missouri has spent over a whopping $31 million in name, image and likeness (NIL) compensation for their student-athletes over the last year, according to financial records obtained by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The NIL spending from Mizzou shows the university’s push forward to make sure that they’re a competitor in football and men’s basketball given the circumstances of modern college sports that has created an athlete market similar to professional sports. Per the records, almost two-thirds of the funds from 2024 went into the football program for players, while a fourth went into men’s basketball. The rest of the money went towards women’s basketball, baseball and other lower-level programs.

The $31.7 million figure features the 2024 football campaign that saw Mizzou go 10-3 and the men’s basketball season that witnessed the Tigers going back to the NCAA Tournament. Transfer spending for each team’s upcoming years are also included.

The numbers for the University of Miami, my school of choice, aren’t publicly available, however, I did get Grok (artificial intelligence) to come up with a list for me to get the best guesstimate.

Here’s what Grok had to say:

“While precise totals are unavailable, combining Ruiz’s $10 million in early NIL spending, Canes Connection’s $15 million football budget, an estimated $8 million basketball budget, and other deals (e.g., Cantwell, Beck, Cavinder twins), Miami’s cumulative NIL expenditure from 2021 to 2025 likely exceeds $30–40 million, with football and basketball as primary focuses. This is a rough estimate, as some figures overlap, and not all deals are publicly reported.”

I think everybody would agree that Miami is at the top of the list when it comes to NIL spending, we’re the same school that spent $4.5 million on superstar quarterback Carson Beck alone, so when you compare Mizzou’s $31.7 million in one year to Grok’s $30-40 million guesstimate for Miami in four years, that shows you how crazy the Tigers are going to get championships.

Them boys are out here spending than South Beach money! Respect, respect. Let’s step it up, Miami.
