USA-Canada Championship Brings In Record-Breaking Ratings — In Other Words, NHL Just Struck Gold For Life

What a beautiful pot of gold the NHL has!

The 4 Nations Face-Off championship between the United States and Canada wasn’t just a massive success, it was a historical success. And that was evident by the record-breaking television ratings the tournament brought in.

ESPN, who carried the title game, tallied a whopping 9.3 million viewers Thursday night. The contest peaked at an insane 10.4 million viewers. The mammoth numbers make it the most watched non-Olympic hockey game in modern-day history. But it doesn’t stop there.

In the modern era, the most-watched game in the NHL was in 2019 when Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Boston Bruins and St. Louis Blues raked in 8.9 million viewers. The 4 Nations Face-Off eclipsed that number in its first edition.

The number isn’t just massive for hockey, but in sports overall. In 2024, The Masters golf tournament recorded 9.59 million viewers, while last season’s Top 5 college football matchup between Ohio State and Indiana registered a 9.33 million figure.

The NHL needs to make this a thing every four years (not every year, gotta keep it special), exactly how they did it here in 2025 just a year before the Olympics. It’s too successful to not make this a regular thing.

Talk about striking gold… Wow!
