Most people who eat at a fast food restaurant are not particularly concernred with counting calories, as “healthiness” tends to be pretty low on the list of priorities at those establishments. However, there are certain items you do want to watch out for if you’re trying to be somewhat responsible.
Here are the menu items with the most calories at America’s most popular fast food restaurantsIt is certainly possible to eat at a fast food restaurant without hating yourself a couple of hours after you finish your order, but it’s also very easy to end up in that situation if you’re not aware of what you’re getting yourself into when you chow down.
Many chains have menus that feature a calorie count in fine print that’s fairly easy to ignore when you’re placing an order, including the ones that have items that clock in at more than 1,000.
Before we dive in, I should note that I’m focusing on individual menu items (as opposed to combo meals) that are not meant to be shared with other people.
I’m also excluding limited-time offerings in favor of standard staples while taking potential customization out of the equation (which means I’ll be skipping the likes of Chipotle, Five Guys, and Subway), and I’ve decided to forgo drinks and frozen treats like milkshakes and other ice-cream-based concoctions in favor of more typical fare.
Signature Hot Boneless Wings at Popeyes: 1,020 Calories

Popeyes lists the nutritional information for its fried chicken on a per-piece basis, and if you have a couple of breasts, you’re already over 1,200 calories.
However, the meals that contain multiple pieces are ostensibly combos, which means the nod here goes to the six-piece order of boneless wings doused in the chain’s “Signature Cajun Hot Sauce.”
SuperSonic Double Cheeseburger with Ketchup and Mayo: 1,050 Calories

Sonic has a number of milkshakes that blow this burger out of the water (none more than one made with peanut butter and Oreos that has 1,480 calories if you opt for a large), but as I mentioned above, I’m taking them out of the running.
When it comes to sandwiches, there is only one option at Sonic that will send you north of 1,000 calories: the SuperSonic double cheeseburger. It’s pretty standard at first glance (two patties, two pieces of cheese with lettuce, tomatoes, onion, pickles, and ketchup and mayo), but it still has close to 200 calories more than a triple smashburger with bacon that you can also order there.
Angus Half Pound Cheesesteak at Arby’s: 1,100 Calories

I feel like most people who go to Arby’s head there for a roast beef sandwich as opposed to a cheesesteak. However, if you opt for the half-pound version of the latter, you are getting the most calorie-laden option on its menu.
Mushroom Swiss Burger at Whataburger: 1,100 Calories

Whataburger was founded in Texas, a state that is known for priding itself on doing virtually everything bigger than everyone else.
If you want to honor that tradition when you eat there, then your best bet is the Mushroom Swiss Burger, which narrowly edges out the Sweet & Spicy Bacon Burger (1,080 calories) and the Triple Meat Whataburger (1,070) for the top spot.
Triple Bacon Deluxe at Culver’s: 1,150 Calories

The name of the Triple Bacon Deluxe at Culver’s alone is enough to make your arteries ache, and they probably won’t thank you if you pull the trigger on a burger that features three patties topped with cheese, bacon, and mayo along with the pickles, onions, lettuce, and tomato you can use to tell yourself you’re being healthy because they’re vegetables.
Large Louisiana Voodoo Fries at Wingstop: 1,180

Most of the wings at Wingstop are around 100 calories each, and while a 10-piece order would put some of them in contention, I’m going a different route for this one.
No single item at Wingstop will fill you up more than a large order of the Louisiana Voodoo fries, which are coated with a Cajun seasoning and covered with the cheese sauce and ranch dressing that help put them over the top.
Dave’s Triple at Wendy’s: 1,195 Calories

You may be surprised to learn the Baconator does not sit on the calories throne at Wendy’s, although that is mostly because the one that comes with three patties is no longer an official item on its menu.
However, the same cannot be said about the Dave’s Triple, which features 3/4 of a pound of meat along with all the usual fixings.
Big Breakfast with Hotcakes at McDonald’s: 1,340 Calories

If we’re being technical, no single item on the McDonald’s menu boasts more calories than the 1,650 you’ll get in a 40-piece order of Chicken McNuggets. I’m sure there are some people who can down that many in one sitting, but I don’t think the folks at Mickey D’s would encourage anyone to do so.
The only other item that clocks in at four digits is the Big Breakfast option, which features scrambled eggs along with a sausage patty, biscuit, hash brown, and three pancakes for good measure (it also packs 158 grams of carbs).
Triple Whopper with Bacon & Cheese at Burger King: 1,350 calories

A burger with three patties is once again responsible for Burger King’s appearance on this list, and it’s only appropriate that the chain takes the crown when it comes to the chain that’s currently responsible for the single item with the highest number of calories.
If you order a Triple Whopper with Bacon & Cheese and eat it all, you’ll get 92 grams of fat, but you can also tell yourself you’re proteinmaxxing thanks to the 82 grams it also offers on that front.
